Alpine Skiing - Sarka Strachova's Love at First Try

Numerologists would argue that 11 is a power number and those born on such a day inspire people and that their presence is galvanizing. They have a great deal of determination and leadership. Once they set their minds on a goal, they will devote themselves entirely to it. Maybe this is why it is not a coincidence that Šárka Strachová, born on February 11th, holds many of those great traits and, who knows, this could be one of the reasons behind her winning an Olympic medal in alpine skiing.

DECIDING TO MAKE A CAREER OUT OF ALPINE SKIING

For some people, choosing a career takes a long time and a lot of energy. Some people just fall into it and stay there for a long time. There is, however, one important thing that either type of person mentioned above will give to this choice. It’s a lot of effort, dedication, perseverance and time. Building up a sports career over 20 years is all the above plus many more and who can tell the story better than Czech Republic’s top alpine skier Šárka Strachová.

TRAINING FOR ALPINE SKIING

Skiing must have been love at first try for Šárka Strachová, we cannot imagine otherwise since she first got on the skies from a very early age. And the Czech Republic is not short of places which can support a young child’s dreams of becoming a top athlete. And for her 20 year-long career, she has some pretty amazing achievements to show for it. Just to name a few:

  • Olympic bronze medal for Slalom in Vancouver, Canada, 2010

  • Gold medal for Slalom at the World Championship in Åre, Sweden, 2007

  • Silver medal for Slalom at the World Championship in Val-d'Isère, France, 2009

  • Two Bronze medals at World Championship in 2005 in Bormio, Italy and in 2015 in Beaver Creek, USA

  • 17 TOP 3 places in World Cup tours

Now, do you want to know how she achieved all that?

TRYING OUT OTHER SPORTS

Even though athletes tend to excel in one discipline, the types of training they do throughout the year can also bring them closer to other sports. It does not matter if you are a speed skater for example, bike training can easily be part of your summer routine as well as surfing or yoga. Whatever does the trick for you to keep you in shape and keeps you going. Šárka Strachová is no stranger to other sports either, so here is how she used to complete her training routine before retiring.
