Thinking about PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games

Winning the first medal in the Olympic Games is an overwhelming experience and for any sports champion such as Anke Woehrer, so dreaming of adding new ones to the collection is only natural. Who wouldn't? Yet, that adds more pressure not just on a personal level, but also for those who supported her during her journey of making the dream come true. Here are some of Anke Woehrer's thoughts about PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Feelings before an Olympic Final ...

Participating in the Olympic Games is a tremendous achievement! Having the certainty of a medal is overwhelming! How do you keep your cool when you know that you have already secured a place on the Olympic podium? That is Anke Woehrer’s story to tell!

Thinking of PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games

It’s hard enough for a normal person to think about what training for an Olympic competition means, let alone three! When we interviewed Anke in November 2017 she did not know if she would qualify for the Winter Olympic Games in PeyongChang, Korea in 2018, but she was determined to give it her best shot. What stroke me during this conversation was her extremely relaxed attitude and the way she made it sound as if it was not a big deal at all. It’s not like you are expecting someone in that situation to show obvious signs of stress, but it almost felt like a casual conversation about the weather. I thought about that moment for a long time, trying to figure out how Anke managed to be so “casual” about qualifying for the third time in the Olympic Games. But once you remember that she has been training for 20 years, competing constantly, then you realize that eventually this attitude comes with the “job”. And, the same attitude, along with her hard work is what brought her back into the German Olympic team once again!
